Haemodynamic studies before and after electrical conversion of atrial fibrillation and flutter to sinus rhythm.

چکیده
The clinical use of direct current shock in the management of cardiac arrhythmias (Lown, Amarasingham, and Neuman, 1962) has been amply confirmed by many other workers (O'Brien, Resnekov, and McDonald, 1964; Oram et al., 1964; Morris et al., 1964b). The length of time that sinus rhythm persists after the electrical conversion of chronic arrhythmias is often disappointingly short, even when quinidine is prescribed (Resnekov, 1965), and complications following direct current shock are by no means infrequent (McDonald and Resnekov, 1964; Resnekov and McDonald, 1964, 1965). It seemed important therefore to determine what hwemodynamic benefit might be expected following the electrical conversion of atrial fibrillation and flutter to sinus rhythm.

Successful intracardiac electrical conversion of atrial flutter in patients with complex congenital heart disease.
Sixteen patients presenting on 21 occasions with atrial flutter in association with complex congenital heart disease were treated by intracardiac stimulation techniques combined with activation mapping. Nineteen episodes of atrial flutter were successfully converted to sinus rhythm. In the remaining two episodes atrial fibrillation was induced with spontaneous conversion to sinus rhythm within ...
متن کاملFacilitating influence of procainamide on conversion of atrial flutter by rapid atrial pacing.
In a prospective, double-blind, randomized, placebocontrolled study we investigated the facilitating influence of intravenous procainamide on conversion of atrial flutter by rapid atrial pacing. Fifty consecutive patients with spontaneous sustained atrial flutter were 1:1 randomized into two homogenous groups: group A received 10 mg.kg-1 procainamide intravenously, group B placebo. After infusi...
متن کاملRecovery of atrial systolic function after pharmacological conversion of chronic atrial fibrillation to sinus rhythm: a Doppler echocardiographic study.
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the time course of the recovery of atrial mechanical function after pharmacological cardioversion of chronic atrial fibrillation to sinus rhythm. PATIENTS AND METHODS 21 patients (12 male, 9 female, aged 37-77 years) with chronic atrial fibrillation (< 6 months) were followed up by serial transmitral pulsed Doppler echocardiography. Echocardiographic studies were perform...
متن کاملEfficacy, safety, and determinants of conversion of atrial fibrillation and flutter with oral amiodarone.
Amiodarone is effective for long-term maintenance of sinus rhythm after electrical cardioversion of refractory atrial fibrillation or flutter. To examine its efficacy and safety for pharmacologic conversion of these arrhythmias, we studied 129 patients with refractory atrial fibrillation or flutter who had failed previous intensive conventional antiarrhythmic treatment. In anticipation of elect...
متن کاملArrhythmias in Patients With Pulmonary Hypertension; A Narrative Review of the Current Literature
Incidence and prognostic relevance of supraventricular arrhythmias were evaluated in nine studies. These studies investigated patients with different forms of pulmonary hypertension. Supraventricular arrhythmias were more often found in patients with group two pulmonary hypertension. Common findings in these patients were elevated right atrial pressure and diameters and reduced tricuspid annula...
